Gollums rock

Has anyone seen  in an early copy of The Hobbit a description of a house on  "the slimy rock" that Gollum called home? My copy  of 1972 doesn't , but I have an excerpt in a magazine from  1938 that has a house on it.

Hmm, interesting. Haven't seen any myself but members like Galin, who often know more about older editions than others, might know.

In the edition I got says:" Actually Gollum lived on a slimy island of rock in the middle of the lake". So it doesn't say anything a House.

I don't have much time of late (working on some stuff), but I very quickly checked the most likely chapter here, and so far no mention of a house.

If you could post the actual quote from the zine it might make things easier, as I can then pinpoint the text in the first edition for comparison.

Draft text for The Hobbit has now been made public too, but as you said 'early copy' (and the zine is from 1938) I assume you mean first edition.
