Huan the great hound

Welcome back to the forums. Like you I suspect that I too belonged to the forum some years back, and I just recently returned. Great to be back and great to have you back.

Hi, I'm newer than you, and oh so grateful that this site survived the deadly plague that killed so many sites 2 - 3 years after the film The Return of the King came and went. For years I had hoped for a Tolkien community, got heavily obsessed with 2 sites.. and they were gone. Just like that.

I'm a Hobbit Sherriff by the way. I don't know why the Professor chose to write sherriff incorrectly, but I kept the spelling.

'I'm a Hobbit Sherriff by the way. I don't know why the Professor chose to write sherriff incorrectly, but I kept the spelling.'

Welcome!

Shirriff is a now obsolete form of Sheriff, but used by Tolkien to make the connexion with Shire plainer. Sheriff hails from shire-reeve, the reeve or local official of the shire or county.
