Actors you think fit Silmarillion characters?
(Preview)
Often i have tried in my mind to find actors who would look the part for Silmarillion characters. Would like to explore possible choices just for the fun of it. Pick any actor/actress, living or dead. I realize it will be near impossible to fit an actress to fit the description of Luthien. i'm inter...

(

(Preview)
I was reading Silmarillion today and got to the part where melkor and Ungoliant attacked Valinor and the trees were killed. I was wondering if Ungoliant was like a spirit or "power" that chose her shape as a spider.. could she exist with no shape like the valar .. or was she stuck as a spider?

What is your opinion of Feanor and Maeglin?
(

(Preview)
Roughly a month ago, in a thread where the character and actions of certain elvish and human characters were subjects of discussion and countering points of view, a question was asked concerning the characters Feanor and Maeglin. It seemed to me that this should be a unique thread of its own. The q...

Melkor vs the Ainur
(Preview)
I've been listening to the Sil on youtube and something struck me that I had not thought of: why was it so difficult for all of the Ainur (Valar) to take on just Melkor and defeat him? I realize that Melkor was supposed to be greatest of the Ainur, but Manwe wasn't that much weaker (if that's the right word)...

The problem of Ros
(Preview)
I think the problem is briefly summed up by JRRT. With respect to ros 'foam' and ros as the red-brown colour word, Tolkien wrote: 'It is difficult to accept these two homophonic elements -- of unconnected, indeed unconnectable meanings -- as used in Sindarin, or Sindarized names.' That's the seem...

An Elf slays a demigod
(Preview)
I mean Echtelion, who killed a Valarauko in Gondolin. Was that being limited by its material form in such a degree so as to finally irreversibly perish having taken excessive physical damage, or did Echtelion fight both in the dimension of body and that of the spirit?

Migration from Beleriand
