The Atlas of Middle Earth
(Preview)
I'm not entirely sure this is the right forum for this topic. If not I apologize, but I didn't seem to see one that suited it better. My question is not a Tolkien book, but it is a book related to Tolkien's works. I'm wondering about a book I heard of recently that interested me. I was wondering if anyon...

Tales From The Perilous Realm Deluxe Edition
(Preview)
I know I am very late in trying to procure this book, but I have been looking for it everywhere with no luck. Would anyone have an idea where I could find the Deluxe Edition of this book--without having to sell one of my children?

'The Road Goes Ever on'
(Preview)
I am not sure if anyone has this book, its quite an unusual one about the songs of Tolkien. The Songs are composed by Donald Swann, the poems by Tolkien. I am not sure if it can be purchased anymore. In it there is a Poem called 'Errantry'. Now we know that JK Rowling seemingly copied many names from Tolkien...

(Preview)
As I was saying here, I will attempt to start a few topics concerning Tolkien's books that might interest readers. I am posting now a review of 'Smith of Wootton Major', the edition put together by Verlyn Flieger (which I consider the best there is - available on Amazon.co.uk). This book was first pub...

Hi to all, I'm new to the forum. I've just finished acquiring the collection of books which are included in the History of Middle Earth from The Lost Tales to the Journeys of Frodo. I also have The Children of Hurin, The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales. I would like to know where these books fit into th...

The Fall of Gondolin--could it be a stand alone story?
(Preview)
I know that The Silmarillion is complex. One story--The Children of Hurin has been published as a stand alone story. In my last thread I posed the question if Beren and Luthien could be a stand alone story? One of the other great stories in The Silmarillion is the Fall of Gondolin. What do others th...

Beren and Luthien--could it be a 'stand alone tale?'
(Preview)
This is just some speculation on my part. But I wanted to ask other Tolkienian's if they thought the Tale of Beren and Luthien Tinuviel would ever be a stand alone story like The Children of Hurin? It seems to me to have been a tale very dear to Tolkien. It is a complex tale. I just wondered what others h...

Books of Lost Tales
(Preview)
I have recently finished reading the second part of this small collective and I must say that I was blown away. I know that they are just rough drafts of the Silmarillion stories but boy was I wowed by not only the change of tone and pace but how plausible it would have been had Tolkien used these instead of...

Good day to my favorite cast of Tolkien enthusiasts, I don't know if this is in poor taste or not but I wanted to direct you most respectable Tolkien Home Page members to another site for just one day. That day is today March 10th, 2012. I have looked into Theonering.net for some time for news about the u...

Was Smaug in the War of Wrath?
(Preview)
All right, here's the thing. Smaug could have been in the War of Wrath. Why? Well, I will list some points. They might not all necessarily prove he was in the War of Wrath, but they do allow for the possibility. - Smaug is a Winged Uruloki, created by Morgoth for the Last Battle - Two escaped - Smaug said h...

Was Smeagol evil?
(Preview)
Do you think that Smeagol was evil before the ring even came into his life? After all, it was Smeagol who killed Deagol, not Gollum.
I think he must have had an evil side, or at least the seeds of evil implanted into his personality. Others who encountered the Ring were able...

Does anyone know where I can find the first 13 or so pages of The New Shadow?
(Preview)
Well, for those of you who don't know (the rest should skip this paragraph), Tolkien's final (I think) book in the "series" was to be the sequel to the Lord of the Rings. The New Shadow was, however, soon abandoned because Tolkien viewed it as "immoral and unessicary". Tolkien...

All, Certainly we have learned that Tolkien's works contain dimensions that exceed the typical fantasy or fairy story.
