Who is Meriadoc's best friend?

Hello everybody! I'm new on the forum smile  Now I am reading "The Hobbit" and I was all PJ's trilogy. I liked very much Merry and Pippin so, I wonder if Merry's best friend is Pippin in the book too. Thank you!

Welcome! Yep, Merry and Pippin are best friends in the book as well. But one thing to keep in mind regarding the books - the hobbits are much older than they are portrayed in the films!

Really? I knew Frodo is 50. What about the others?

From memory I think they're all about the same age, maybe Merry an Pippin are in their 30s? I can't recall exactly.

I think Pippin mentioned that he was just out of his tweens. It was when he was speaking to the boy (whose name escapes me) in Gondor.

I think perhaps this may help.

Frodo Baggins ~ Date of Birth: September 22, 2968 of the Third Age
Meridoc "Merry" Brandybuck  ~ Date of Birth: 2982 of the Third Age
Peregrin "Pippin" Took ~ Date of Birth: 2990 of the Third Age
Samwise "Sam" Gamgee  ~ Date of Birth: April 6, 2980 of the Third Age

That's good work Bear! Thanks. It would make sense that Frodo was the oldest since Sam ALWAYS called Frodo "mister Frodo"
