A Major Movire Adaptation Error

In the book, Shelob stabs Frodo with her stinger in the neck. However, in the movie she stabs him in the chest (both shown when he is stabbed and the mark on his chest later). But he is wearing the mithril vest...proven when the orcs take it off him. What do you all think: did Jackson/Boyd know this and ignore it when they wrote the film, or did they make a major error?

In my opinion, they knew and ignored it. But, I am probably harbouring some resentments towards PJ and the screenwriters. Hopefully someone less bias will giver their opinion.

Bias or not, I have to agree with you - they ignored it. They are so well versed in Tolkien, they would not miss something like that. And what is the motive of having him stabbed in the chest as opposed to the neck? I despise it when film adaptations, with full knowledge, change things that create inexcusable errors.

I genuinely think they overlooked it. It's the only explanation I can think of. Sometimes these apparently obvious oversights end up going unnoticed, seems strange in hindsight.
