Question on the 3 Elven rings.

So, Sauron helped Celebrimbor with making the seven and the nine rings and put some of his power into them so he could control those who wore them.

Does anyone know what source of "magic" Celebrimbor used to power the three for the elves?  Elves have some limited powers but the three were powerful and the magic had to be spread out over the three.

Thank you!

A very late reply to this thread but I've only just found the site again so apologies!

I don't think Tolkien ever explicitly expresses the 'mechanics' behind how Elvish (or Dwarvish or even Men like the Numenoreans) 'magic' actually works, such as how an object gets imbued with some magical property or other, such as Moon runes. I'd be interested to know if this is ever touched upon in the History of Middle-earth series, or even commentated on by Christopher in there, or otherwise some insight gleaned from Tolkien's Letters.

My guess is this is left deliberately vague. The Rings of Power simply seem to have gained their powers through a combination of highly skilled and powerful Elvish craft and, as you say, boosted by presumably subtle aspects of Sauron's own powers.
