I second the idea of a chatroom. It's a great way to get to know the other members without encouraging people to post too often and falsely inflate their ranks. There seem to be a lot of interesting people here I'd like to get to know better, which can be kind of difficult when you're only discussing the one topic of Tolkien.
I was thinking of a Multimedia forum where there can be uploaded small videos, songs, parts of songs and videos etc with LOTR actors, Enya and any other person or thing that can be taped.
TSF, I know for sure then ew and improved TF will have a chatroom available, since Celethil asked me to help him test it, and I can say it worked very well.
How about an index thred, so that insted of having to use the search function, and get wrong orirrelevent results, everything is right there in front of you.

I don't know if is much of a feature but I was wondering if besides kingdoms where we're upgrading ranks for increasing the number of posts how would be to have some guildes or teams to join as well. Ex. art guilde, poetry team, design team, RPG guilde, etc. You know a team to join where the members to be gifted with a common talent. Some have talent for poetry, others for RPing, some for painting and so on. I honestly feel freathened for not being a lore master (quite scared for not even willing to become any time soon) but there are other things I'm good at and I'd like to share them in a place where spammers won't bugg in and where users with similar abilities will have a word to say. Well.. I admit I am the biggest spammer around but the main purpose of this request is because I wan't this to change unles you like being bugged. Just to make sure my point went straight: I WISH (not demand) a place where people with other skills than Tolkien to practice their talents and be apreciated and encouraged for it. In the end Tolkien is not just about the books, he's much more, he's fantasy, creativity, originality, history, poetry, art, adventure. I'm just suggesting to take advantage of all that Tolkien world offers and make this forum a place for even more categories of people. If you find this message stupid, disconsider it. The thing is, sometimes I go through some periods of time when I feel not apreciated enough even for the simple fact that I am a human, I feel negleted, left outised alone, pushed away. And it has nothing to do with this forums or with you particularly. It has to do with me. There is something big going on in my heart right now and not even the most advanced science can explaine exactly what. I go through dificult times. I have big exams in front and I don't know where to start learning or even what to learn. I am at the age where life turns 180° and it's up to me to make sure it will go on the right direction. Frankly, I am scared. Well.. I had to let this go and I'm glad I did. Sorry for this. It's definitely the wrong place for it. Yet I still consider the guild thingy a good idea. You?
I personally find this a really good idea. For art I think there already is a thread made by Celethil, however other such guildes could be started. I would definitely look forward to such things...now we must see what The One decides, but I guess he will agree with this as well.
Something I saw on another forum and liked very much.
Karma every user has karma points which are shown right under the avatar. Every user can increase other player's karma buy clicking on his karma link. You can increase someone's karma only once every 6 hours. You can't increase your own karma. Karma is normally for good posts. However, some can abuse this feature and increase someone's karma without some good reason, therefore, bad idea.
Rumil posts a lot of nonsense lately, specialy when he drinks; bad elf !!!
This is the same as Reputation on the Barrow-Downs forums You can give good or bad reputation depending if you liked the post a lot, or really didn't like it You can only give reputation to a certain person once you gave some to others as well, so as to prevent that you keep giving it to only one Also, low rank members can't give reputation to high rank members, meaning that once you have much reputation you have to impress other high rank members in order to get some, rather then only some who have just joined. I find the system very good, and abusing it is very hard. What I don't like about it, is that you can only know who gave or took away reputation from you if they choose to reveal it, so theoretically you could give someone bad rep for no reason, so if this is possible here, I'd like to see who is doing what. But, I'm not sure if that works...maybe The One knows
Well . . . maybe it would be asking much of a small community, but I'd like to see the books section expanded to include criticism somehow. There's an amazing array of scholarly (and perhaps less scholarly) material that would require some kind of structure in order to create the discussion - put us all on the same page, so to speak.
Perhaps a book-club style section, where works by or about Tolkien (including popular works and more obscure titles) could be announced ahead of time (giving people time to locate and read it), and discussion would begin on a given date. After a particular work was introduced, it would have its own thread, and so could be re-visited anytime; by newcomers, or those who didn't have time to cover the material at the start.
If such a thing were to happen, it would make sense to start down a road less traveled, but easily accessible, such as "Unfinished Tales". A hard book to analyze perhaps, due to the nature suggested in the title, but a commentary overview might still be useful. A natural follow to that would be "The Children of Hurin", and I'm sure many of us have read it or plan to. Or maybe something shorter, like "Leaf By Niggle"... or a chapter at a time of "Understanding The Lord of the Rings: The Best of Tolkien Criticism" -?
Over time, the relative usefulness, applicability, and intellectual level of many books about Tolkien could be evaluated here, and might become quite a valuable resource.
maybe...
I dunno about you guys, but my friends' familys' eyes glaze over when I talk about such things.
My friends and esteemed administrators, This is my first suggestion ... so I am not sure if this is the right place to suggest this ... often on the social network sites (like facebook) you can make a comment on what has been posted ... and sometimes you can just click on a box that says "like". Recently I have enjoyed reading a dialogue between Galin and one of our newer members Lorelline. Rather than jump in and possibly interrupt this dialogue I would like to indicate that I "liked" a post. Is there a chance we could add that feature at the end of the individual members post?
Just asking... Bear

I have passed this suggestion on to the developers and they have told me that if they ever introduce such a system - and it is on their list apparently - they will introduce a full blown reputation system as well as a 'Like a Post' option.

What about a "book club"? Members sign up for it, we all read the same Tolkien book, a chapter a week, and each week a different member facilitates discussions and analyses of that week's chapter.
